Magical, peaceful place to stay on Arran
Butt Lodge was our first stop on our trip to Arran in the delightful little village/town of Lochranza, on the north side of the island. Cath and Mac were so welcoming on our arrival for our two night stay there and they took us to our lovely, clean and well decorated room in a COVID-safe manner.
The service we received was second to none and one of the highlights for us was the fantastic, delicious breakfast they provide. All of the produce is fresh and tasty, and they also provide an amazing selection that accompanies the breakfast, like freshly baked pain au chocolates, which were just delightful.
We only wished that we'd had booked evening meals there also because every time we had to leave to drive to our restaurant reservation elsewhere on the island, we had to walk through Butt Lodge's reception area and the cooking smells were just beautiful. Great value for money also, as they did a deal when we stayed.
We had a special time on Arran and Butt Lodge was part of that. We will remember the hospitality, kindness and warmth shown by Cath and Mac forever. Thank you so much for our stay. Hopefully we will return in the future.

We will definitely be back!
We stayed in the Castle Suite at Butt Lodge on Hallowe'en weekend and had the best time! Beautiful room with amazing views. Cath and Mac were fantastic hosts and made us feel right at home. They were incredibly accommodating and we shared some great chats. We booked for dinner there both nights and the food was delicious. Thank you Mac! Breakfast was also a treat. We really enjoyed Cath's overnight oats followed by full Scottish breakfast. Great way to start your day! The setting of Butt Lodge is really special. The scenery and the wildlife in Lochranza is hard to beat. The place literally changed us! ;) Was also a joy to meet the cats. We will certainly be returning and recommending to friends and family. Thanks again Cath and Mac. We hope you have a well deserved break!!! Nicole and Adam
One night was not enough to properly savour this delight. Cath and Mac are wonderful hosts, from the moment we crossed the threshold we were made to feel at home. A warm welcome and delicious food, book for dinner too, you won't get better food or more value for money. We booked a double room and ended up with a suite. Even as the tide rose and we overstayed we felt welcome and taken care of. There were dressimg gownst
We will be back.
Can't wait to go back!!!
There aren't enough words to say how amazing our stay was at Butt Lodge. When Mac opened the door to our room, The Castle Suite, there were tears in my eyes. It's ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!! And the views from the windows are incredible!! You could just sit in the window seats all day and take in the amazing scenery and watch the stags and red squirrels. Just perfect!
A massive bonus for us was that an evening meal is offered. And Mac is an excellent chef. The meal was delicious.
Cath is the perfect hostess, genuinely interested in her guests. I loved the fact that she looked so nice for for evening service with a lovely, long dress.
Breakfast was great. And we sat watching the red squirrels and sheep wandering around in front of the breakfast room window.
Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!!
Cath and Mac are great hosts. Mac is an excellent chef, Cath can’t do enough for you and the cats allow you to scratch their ears……
Very happy to have a dog in the room and at meals the cuter the better.
Good food comfy beds and good company. What more do you want.
Very little to add!
Can only agree with all the other 5 star reviews. The hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming, offering a first class service. Nothing was too much trouble.
Actively promotes the use of face coverings, which in fairness seems to be the case throughout Scotland, and provides that extra level of reassurance. Everything was meticulously clean.
The property is surrounded by stunning scenery, and very well signposted off the main road. The last 100 metres or so is via a 'track' which is probably best tackled in daylight for the first time. Don't be suprised to find sheep by your car in the morning...it really is a delightful place to stay.
There are no shops/restaurants in the vicinity, and most places close early. The hosts offer an evening meal option, which is a good choice if you don't each much during the day. Having said that, the breakfast is delicious and plentiful, so pretty much sets you up for the entire day!
The room we stayed in was extremely comfortable and well equipped.
To summarise, there is absolutely nothing to fault....except check in advance which days the whisky distillery nearby closes!!
The Lochranza ferry terminal is only a 5 minute or so drive away.
We would visit again without hesitation.
A Lochranza find. Do stay here.
What an excellent place to stay in Lochranza. The owners are extremely friendly, rooms clean and fresh and breakfast is very good. Very reasonable costs as well. Road to Butt Lodge very interesting but do keep going as you won’t regret it.
Our highlight was that the it was the annual red deer rutt and the local stags visited the golf course next to the Lodge. Brought his hinds with him and watching them was excellent fun.
Perfect In Every Way
This was our first trip to Arran and Butt lodge has made it our perfect holiday. Cath and Mac are beautiful people who provide the luxury accommodation with the best breakfasts and evenings meals. You cant find anywhere better for taste, quality and presentation of the food. The service is top quality. The Castle Room is fitting for any princess with its spiral staircase, views of the red deer and picturesque stag and clear star filled skies. The home made granola is the best ever tasted and the vegan breakfast is superb. The mackerel pate is so nice you will never forget it.
Two night stay
Stayed for two nights at this lovely location, the hosts could not have been more helpful, the room was a great size with separate lounge.
Food was excellent and the three course dinner for £25 was great value, cooked breakfast was also excellent.
The soundtrack provided by the sheep and wild deer was also first class.
All in all a fantastic experience.
Wonderful first trip to Arran
My partner and I stayed at this lovely bed and breakfast for 2 nights. It us situated in my opinion at the nicest part of the Island with stunning views and lots of nice walks to do. Cath and Mac the owners are 2 very nice friendly people who make you feel at home as soon as you walk through their front door, nothing is too much bother for them. Our room had a lovely view looking over the golf course and was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delicious on both mornings and we also had dinner on one of our evenings there which was first class! I would recommend Butt Lodge to anyone and hope that we will be able to visit again very soon.
